In 2008, Shuster joined Time Magazine as a correspondent, and he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the magazine’s Bureau Chief in Berlin in 2013. In this role, he covered major European events, including the refugee crisis and the rise of far-right populism.

In 2018, Shuster left Time to become a Senior Correspondent for the New York Times, where he continues to report on global affairs, including conflicts in the Middle East, political upheavals in Latin America, and the rise of authoritarianism around the world.
